Finally….Baby Blanket
July 22, 2007 by angelknits
The long dragging baby blanket is finally ready! I started working on it probably 3 months ago. Then I was on and off on the needles with it. About 2 months ago I started to get serious because the gift recipient is coming to this world sooner! She is little Erika, my girlfriend Lillian’s new born baby. By the time I was determined to finish it, I then attracted to be a knitting tester for Sylvie, so I put the blanket on the side again. Now that the plumetis cardigan is done, I was determined to only work on this blanket but nothing else. Oh boy, what a tough job.

Sirdar yarn is very soft to touch. It’s easy to knit and to crochet with. The best thing is that, it’s machine washable! I got it at Mary’s Yarn at Unionville, Toronto. The lady said this is the best yarn for baby.

It’s a easy pattern that’s combine with knit and crochet. I was watching a checker’s game on TV, then I came up with the checker’s pattern by doing k5p5 all along. 5 rows later, change the pattern to p5k5. The top and bottom are surrounded by granny squares with 3D flowers. The flowers are done in two tones, one in shimmery pink and shimmery purple. Don’t you love it? It’s so girly for the little Erika. Then I finished it with seashells to make it more elegant.

This picture is a little dull, but I wanted to show the 3D flowers. I hope Erika will like it.
Yarn: Sirdar Snuggly, double knitting. 3 balls in cream, one ball in yellow, one ball each of shimmery pink and shimmery purple.
Needle: 4.25mm circular, crochet hook 3.5mm.
Pattern: original

Thanks so much, I am just in time to look at this new lovely blanket before I actually receive it.
Erika will love it ..
Thanks a million!!!

Hey Marcie,
Sorry my internet service at home was down so i wasn’t able to check anything online until today! it was like a torture and I didn’t know surfing the net became part of my life.
thanks for your compliments and your interest. I found this flower pattern from a Japanese book. i don’t read Japanese but they use chart to show the steps. If you read chart, I can take a picture and send it to you. Let me know.
